Last week, Katharine Frederick defended her PhD thesis Deindustrialization in East Africa: textile production in an era of globalization and colonization, c. 1830-1940 at Wageningen University, supervised by Ewout Frankema and myself. I wish to congratulate Kate on this excellent thesis and the professional way in which she defended it.
